Fish Creek Excavating Ltd. is accepting applications for the position of Estimator, based out of our Calgary office.

Responsibilities:

  • The Project Estimator will prepare estimates of costs including the costs of materials, labour and equipment. 

·        Quantity takeoffs for tender verification & risk assessment.

·        Attend pre-tender meeting and jobsite investigations.

·        Supervise preparation of all sub-contracts to ensure accurate contract administration.

·        Conduct handover meetings with operations personnel.

·        Ensure each project has the proper contractual arrangements (ie. Indemnification, purchase orders, permits, etc.)

·        Review project costs after completion to ensure the quality of future estimates

·        Understanding of provided and existing specifications including local municipality standard specifications (City of Calgary, County of Rockyview, Alberta Transportation)

·        Responsible for forecast costs and expenditure statements throughout the duration of the project while preparing construction progress schedules and project budgets.

·        Effective communication skills

  • Providing assistance to the senior staff (Project Managers) in the coordination, scheduling, quantity surveying, reporting and quality control functions.
  • Works with the Project Manager to establish a cost reporting system for all project components.
  • Monitors daily, weekly and monthly labour, equipment, material and sub-trade costs.  Monitors cost accruals and reviews with the Project Manager on a regular basis.
  • Develops a schedule with the assistance of the Project Manager. Monitors and updates schedules on a regular basis. Reviews and monitors actual construction schedule. Identified critical paths and keeps abreast of manpower loading and material deliveries.
  • Controls drawings, drawing records, revisions, site instructions and change orders.
  • Ensures that all work is completed accurately
  • Obtains and provides written documentation for all clarifications and instructions, attends all regular meetings.
  • Assists with preparing progress invoicing and progress status reports

 

Desired skills and experience:

·        3-5 years of progressive experience in construction industry, specifically earthworks

·        Strong organizational skills

·        Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills

·        Proficient in Agtek software earthworks, Microsoft Suite:  Outlook, Excel and Word

·        Ability to adapt to daily changes in scope of work

·        Experience in estimating, planning and reporting research results to others

·       Strong strategic planning skills with attention to detail
